WASHINGTON, Feb. 16, 2011 – Gold Star
Sausage, a Denver, CO establishment is recalling
approximately an undetermined of chili products because they
contain an undeclared allergen, soy, which is not
declared on the label. Soy is a known allergen.
The following products are subject to recall: [Labels (PDF Only)]
- 16 oz. plastic containers of “Johnson’s Chili”
- 16 oz. plastic containers of “Johnson’s Chili,
Hot & Spicy”
Each package bears the establishment number “1106”
inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as a
packaging date.
The products were packaged in Colorado from Feb. 15,
2010 to Feb. 15, 2011, and shipped to wholesalers
nationwide. The recall covers all products produced in
that timeframe by the company.
The problem was discovered by FSIS during a routine
label review, when it was determined that the label read
lecithin, not “soy lecithin” as it should. FSIS and the
company have received no reports of adverse reactions
due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned
about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to
verify recalling firms notify their customers of the
recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the
product is no longer available to consumers.
Consumers and media with questions about the recall
should contact the company’s President, Rick Rue at
(303) 295-6400 ext. 302.
Consumers with food safety questions can "Ask Karen," the FSIS virtual representative available
24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov.

and Spanish and can be reached from l0 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Recorded food
safety messages are available 24 hours a day. |
