Public Meeting to Review Positions of Codex Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2010 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Office of Food Safety today announced a public
meeting to review and solicit public comments on the draft U.S. positions that the U.S. delegation propose to use at the 4th session of
the Ad Hoc Codex Intergovernmental Task Force on Antimicrobial
Resistance which will meet in Muju-kun, Republic of Korea, Oct. 18-22, 2010.
The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, from 9 a.m. to noon (12 p.m.) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,
Harvey W. Wiley Building, Room 1A-002, 5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD. To participate through teleconference, dial

The Ad Hoc Codex Intergovernmental Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance is mandated by Codex to develop science-based guidance, taking
full account of its risk analysis principles and the work and standards of other relevant international organizations. Among the agenda
items for the session are draft guidelines for risk analysis of foodborne antimicrobial resistance and information on work being conducted
by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organization for Animal Health on
antimicrobial resistance.
Codex was created in 1963 by two United Nations entities: the FAO and the WHO. Codex develops food standards, guidelines and codes of
practice in order to protect the health of consumers, ensure fair food trade practices and promote coordination of food standards
undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
