GOVERNOR DAVIS AND FIRST LADY MOURN FOR SAN LEANDRO SHOOTING VICTIMS
Investigators Shot Wednesday at Sausage Factory
SACRAMENTO- Governor Gray Davis joins all Californians in mourning the deaths of three investigators,
one state and two federal employees, who were killed Wednesday while trying to serve a notice of violation at a
San Leandro sausage factory.
An investigator from the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and two investigators from the United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) were shot and killed at the Santos Linguisa factory.
"This is an unspeakably barbarous act. These investigators were working hard, doing their jobs, protecting
California consumers. I am sure that law enforcement will do everything in its power to bring those responsible
to justice. I stand ready to help them.
"Sharon and I are shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy," said Governor Davis. "Our hearts and
prayers go out to the victims' families and co-workers."
Governor Davis has ordered flags at State buildings lowered to half-staff in memory of the slain CDFA investigator.
A fourth person, a CDFA meat inspector, escaped unhurt. The names of the victims have not been released pending
notification of their families.
