WASHINGTON, Mar. 25, 2011 — The Office of the Under Secretary for Food Safety, U.S. Department
of Agriculture (USDA), and the Fruit and Vegetable Programs of USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) are sponsoring
a public meeting of the Codex Committee on Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CCFFV) of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex)

The objective of the April 5 public meeting is to provide information and receive public comments on agenda items and to
draft United States positions that will be discussed at the 16th Session of the CCFFV to be held in Mexico City, Mexico,
May 2-6, 2011. The following agenda items will be discussed at both the April 5 public meeting in Washington, D.C, and

of CCFFV will be accessible online at www.codexalimentarius.net/current.asp.
The CCFFV helps to elaborate worldwide standards and codes of practice appropriate for fresh fruits and
vegetables and consulting as necessary with other international organizations that are active in the area of
standardization of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Codex was established in 1963 by two United Nations organizations, the Food and Agriculture Organization
and the World Health Organization. Through adoption of food standards, codes of practice, and other guidelines
developed by its committees, and by promoting their adoption and implementation by governments, Codex
seeks to protect the health of consumers and ensure that fair practices are used in international food trade.
Codex Committee public meetings are intended to ensure a consistent approach to U.S. and international food
safety systems on policies and procedures through input from subject matter experts.
Members of the public may access the meeting agenda, submit written comments electronically or request
copies of documents by contacting Kenneth Lowery, U.S. Codex Office, by mail, phone or e-mail per the
