FSIS Continues to Solicit and Accept Comments on Risk-Based Inspection
FSIS is soliciting comments on the topics that were discussed during the public meeting on risk-based inspection (RBI).
FSIS held the public meeting on October 10 and 11 to discuss risk-based inspection issues. The meeting provided an
overview of FSIS' vision for risk-based inspection.
FSIS is accepting comments until it posts a report in December prepared for the agency by the third party facilitator,
Resolve, Inc. The agency will make another announcement at that time about the report's availability and an opportunity
for public comment.
Comments can be submitted by e-mail to
RiskBasedInspection@fsis.usda.gov
or by fax to (202) 690-6519.

FSIS will co-chair a symposium during the 2006 Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) annual meeting.
The theme of the meeting is "Risk Analysis in a Dynamic World: Making a Difference."
The symposium will focus on modeling the attribution of foodborne illness in the United States and adaptation of a
model for attributing human Salmonellosis to consumption of meat, poultry and eggs in the United States.
The SRA annual meeting brings together nearly 1,000 international scientists and practitioners from a wide range of
disciplines who share an interest in risk analysis.
The annual meeting will feature several plenary sessions focused on the theme of making a difference and the role of
risk analysis in a dynamic world.
It will also consist of technical sessions in the form of oral presentations, posters and poster-platforms.
The SRA meeting will be held from December 3 - 6, at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel, 202 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Md. 21202.

Export Tip of the Week
A computer generated export stamp is a label displaying the export stamp features and may be used in place of the
FSIS rubber stamp. It can be printed on a label with other required labeling features or separately.
An establishment can implement this alternative method of applying the export stamp to a container under the following
conditions. The export stamp:
- must be equal in size and an exact impression of the FSIS rubber export stamp;
- must not be printed until authorized by the inspector and on the basis of an assigned export certificate number;
- must be printed only in the quantity needed for application to the consignment. Any excess labels must be destroyed.; and
- must be applied in such a manner that prevents the possibility of re-use.
The establishment is responsible for assuring that product is stamped properly. The stamped consignment must be
available to the FSIS official for inspection/re-inspection.
FSIS allows the continued use of this stamping procedure only if it remains acceptable to the receiving country.
It must also continue to meet the above requirements and result in no increase in stamping errors.
Export Requirement Updates
The Library of Export Requirements has been updated to reflect changes in export requirements for the following:
- France
- Japan
