Upcoming Public Meetings
Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR): The 44th Session will meet April 23-28 in Shanghai,
People's Republic of China. In addition to considering proposed maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides in
foods and animal feeds, the Committee will also consider:
- The Pilot Project and Progress of the National Global Joint Review;
- Revision of the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds;
- Principles and Guidance for the Selection of Representative Commodities for the Extrapolation of MRLs for Pesticides for Commodity Groups;
- A discussion paper on guidance to facilitate the establishment of MRLs for pesticides for minor crops and specialty crops; and
- Revision of the Risk Analysis Principles applied by the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues.
Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF): The public meeting for the
20th Session will be held April 23, 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Jamie Whitten Building of USDA, 1400 Independence Ave. SW,
Washington DC, Room 107-A. Individuals may also participate via teleconference by calling 1-888-858-2144;

The public meeting will discuss U.S. draft positions for setting maximum residue limits (MRLs) for veterinary drugs
in foods, as well as amendments to the Risk Analysis Principles applied by the CCRVDF; revision of the Risk Assessment
Policy for the setting of MRLS for Veterinary Drugs in Foods; draft sampling plans for residue control for aquatic
animal products; draft priority list for veterinary drugs requiring scientific evaluation or re-evaluation; and risk
management recommendations for veterinary drugs for which no acceptable daily intake and/or MRL has been recommended
by JECFA due to human health concerns.
The Committee will meet in San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 7-11, 2012.
Comments Requested
Committee on Processed Fruits & Vegetables (CCPFV): The United States submitted comments
on the second version of the proposed revisions to the Codex Standard on Table Olives (Stan 66-1981). The electronic
working group is chaired by the European Union.
Committee on Fresh Fruits & Vegetables (CCFFV): The United States issued a report from the
electronic working group for pomegranate sizing and uniformity, which concluded that the expanding international trade
in pomegranates has not been hindered by the absence of an international standard on sizing and uniformity so, in the
development of a proposed Codex standard for fresh pomegranates, it would be more appropriate to provide guidance on
sizing and uniformity as an option rather than a requirement. The United States chaired this working group.
Other News
The U.S. Codex Office conducted a delegate training program for U.S. government officials April 12-13 in Fredericksburg,
VA. The program included presentations on the strategic planning process and featured facilitated discussions of
cross-cutting issues. It also included guidance on cross-cultural cooperation. Forty-seven current U.S. government
officials participated in the program, including three chairpersons for Codex committees, as well as two former U.S.
delegates and a former committee and Commission chairperson.
