Recent Committee Meetings

The Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) concluded its 43rd Session in Beijing, People's Republic of China, on April 8. A summary of outcomes will be provided in the next news brief (April 22).

Upcoming Committee Meetings

The 31st Session of the Committee on Fish & Fishery Products (CCFFP) will take place in Tromso, Norway, April 11-16. The main agenda items are draft standards for fish sauce, for smoked fish, for quick frozen scallop adductor muscle meat, and for fresh/live and frozen abalone. The Committee will also consider revision of the procedure for the inclusion of additional species and fishery products and for food additives to standards for fish and fishery products, as well as a list of methods for determining biotoxins in the Standard for Raw and Live Bivalve Molluscs, and model certificates.

Upcoming Public Meetings

A public meeting will be held on April 25 from 2:00-5:00 PM to review and solicit comments on the draft U.S. positions for the items on the agenda for the 39th Session of the Committee on Food Labeling (CCFL). This meeting will be held in Room 107A of the Jamie Whitten Building of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1400 Independence Ave., Washington, DC. Interested persons may also participate by teleconference by calling 888-858-2144, access code 6208658.

The main agenda items are: revision of the Guidelines on Nutrition Labeling concerning the list of nutrients that are always declared on a voluntary or mandatory basis; recommendations on the declaration of sodium (salt); the use of ethylene in the Guidelines for the Production, Processing, Labeling and Marketing of Organically Produced Food; the labeling of foods and food ingredients obtained through genetic modification; and the proposed definition of nutrient reference values.
