Recent Outreach
Coordinating Committee on Africa (CCAfrica):
The U.S. Codex Office concluded today a week-long technical assistance workshop in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The bilateral
workshop, attended by 50 participants, was designed to emphasize critical elements for a successful National Codex
Contact Point and National Codex Committee as well as to enhance Cameroon's ability to operate effectively as Chair
of CCAfrica.
The first days of the workshop focused on providing a greater understanding to all parties in Cameroon involved with
Codex work. This included a variety of presentations to the entire group, as well as smaller breakout groups to work
on priority setting. The last day of the workshop focused on strengthening Cameroon's ability to lead in its new role
as the Codex Regional Coordinator for Africa.
Comments Requested
The Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH) requests comments on the hygiene provisions
(sections 2.3, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) of the draft Regional Code of Practice for Street-vended Foods prepared
by the Committee for the Near East (CCNEA) and referred to CCFH. At the 43rd Session of CCFH, the Committee
decided to solicit comments from member countries and interested international organizations on the hygiene
provisions only of the draft Regional Code. CCFH also called attention to the two existing regional guidelines or
codes of practice on street-vended foods: Regional Guidelines for the Design of Control Measures for Street-Vended
Foods - Africa (CAC/GL 22R-1997) and the Regional Code of Hygienic Practice for the Preparation and Sale of
Street Foods - Latin America and the Caribbean (CAC/RCP 43R-1995) which can be used as references. The draft regional
code of practice is available as an Annex to a circular letter that will soon be published on our companion page:

Parties interested in contributing to the U.S. response should send their comments to Jenny Scott, U.S. Delegate to
CCFH, (jenny.scott@fda.hhs.gov) with a copy to Joyce Saltsman
(joyce.saltsman@fda.hhs.gov) by May 31, 2012. International
organizations may send their comments directly to the Codex Secretariat (codex@fao.org),
with a copy to Barbara McNiff, in the U.S. Codex Office
(barbara.mcniff@fsis.usda.gov) by the June 30, 2012 deadline set in
the circular letter.
